The Madison Investment Fund 

 

James Madison University students and faculty created the Madison Investment Fund (MIF) in 1999 to provide students with the opportunity to integrate financial theory with the application of real investment strategies. The MIF functions as a money manager for a portion of the James Madison University Endowment.

 

The Madison Investment Fund is divided into 7 sectors:

Consumer Staples, Consumer Discretionary, Technology, Finance, Energy, Industrials, and Economic Analysis Group

Each sector is composed of 5-7 analysts and a sector manager, with two sector managers also serving as Vice Presidents.

Analysts cover specific industries within the sector and then report back to their respective manager with pertinent information about current holdings, individual company research, industry outlooks/trends, and possible buy and sell recommendations for the portfolio.

Managers work to monitor the research of analysts within their sector and enforce compliance with investment objectives and ensure the accuracy of the research. In addition, members of the management team work on educational presentations for the members of MIF that cover different aspects of the financial and investment world that are not covered in the classroom, but are extremely relevant in the real world.

Our Portfolio Management group is comprised of analysts who working under our Chief Portfolio Strategist. Their objective is to construct a well-diversified portfolio with a concentration on risk. The team conducts research and quantitative analysis which provides the fund with economic updates as well as valuation techniques using sophisticated models.

Currently, there are a total of 28 members active in the MIF.
